After jumping through the large hole cut into the ice of frozen Lake Minnetonka, an ice diver is pulled along the length of the open water by local emergency personnel to waiting ladders and warm towels and bathrobes. People of all stripes participated in the 2015 ALARC Ice Dive on New Years Day, Thursday, Jan. 1. The 25th annual Ice Dive comes with a new title, "Excelsior Minnesota is now the Ice Dive capital of Minnesota." Hundreds of ice divers go through the annual rite of passage - for those brave enough to jump into the beautiful water of Lake Minnetonka. ALARC was founded in 1981 by Bill Wenmark and the students in his training program for first-time marathoners. Since then the club has become the largest marathon running club in the U.S. with members throughout the world. ALARC is a non-profit organization.
