Organizers had to cut through two-feet of ice to make sure the 2014 ALARC New Years's Ice Dive could go off as planned. Every year, for safety, members of the Excelsior Fire and Rescue Squad are on hand to assist ice divers through the 31ºF water of Lake Minnetonka during the annual ALARC Ice Dive in Excelsior Wednesday, Jan. 1, outside the Bayview Event Center.
Once in the water, ice divers may choose to be helped along by members of the Excelsior Fire and Rescue Squad. Nearly 700 brave souls voluntarily jumped into the 31ºF water to raise funds for ALARC' sponsorship of fitness events around the globe.
