Sonya Case, Deephaven, right, reads from the book Art Dog to volunteer Alison Humphrey and her golden retriever therapy-teammate Bailey, at the Wayzata, Minn. Public Library Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010. The 'Paws to Read' program was held for children in kindergarten to grade 5 as a way to get reluctant readers more comfortable reading aloud in a group setting.
Ruby, a 2 1/2 year old Black Footed Penguin, lower right, visited downtown Excelsior Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012. Hundreds of people, in groups of about 30, got to spend a few minutes with the two coastal South African birds (Dee, Ruby's mate, is the shy one, and not pictured here). McCullen Mayo, 5, Minnetrista, got a front row seat and a closeup audience with the Hemker Park & Zoo penguin.
